Recently there’s been a lot of negative talk around our beloved Summer Surprises mascot, Modhesh.
Dubai Sunshine wishes him dead, Grapeshisha is scared silly of him, and even I have been tempted into evil by writing a haiku about the springy yellow thing.
I think that we’re just jealous of him, because he gets to have a fun city named after him, and we don’t.
Now, it appears that Modhesh is about to become bigger than Mickey Mouse! Emirates Today reports that Modhesh’s agents are being hounded by (unnamed) Hollywood animation studios waving cheque books – all clamouring to be the first to get Modhesh to sign his name to a contract which will allow the studio to begin filming his exploits.
I have a word of advice for you, Modhesh. Forget about the animation films until you've established yourself as a box office star, and first make some real movies to get your name up in lights. Going straight to animation will only see you doing roles like Shrek and Buzz Lightyear, and you don't want that, do you?
No, my friend - you have to THINK BIG! Go for the top - think Eddie Murphy, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise.....think about changing your name to Tom Modhesh!
In order to help Modhesh, I’ve perused some movies that he might like to look at re-making.
Aided by Secret Dubai’s post on movie titles with a UAE flavour, I’ve redesigned some movie posters so that Modhesh can see what he can aspire to, as he hurtles into the heady heights of hedonistic Hollywood.
Click on the images for a closer look.
Go for it Modhesh - we're behind you all the way!

Happy that I brought some smiles to faces!
Keefie - it's a combination of work burnout resulting in the flu meaning that I had to take some 'me-time'. Added to this, the World Cup in Europe and 4th July holidays in the US, and our workloads diminished somewhat.
Trailing Spouse - no, I'm not!
KJ - still recovering in Germany. TSTT - too sick to travel. Will be home in Dubai tis coming Saturday.
Mme Cyn - it's always dangerous to laugh out loud at work!
In the immortal words of that "Always" commercial...Where do I get it?
Sorry to hear you're sick ... Get well soon! :-D
Very clever bud - well done.
I like the little fella - and so does Taunted Junioir (he's 5).
And Modesh hasn't done too bad for a "Jack-In-The-Box" I reckon!
Just bumped in to your blog this evening. Fantastic. Loved the pictures and especially the link to Molly Johnson. For a minute there, I thought it was Hillary Swank on the Sax until I checked out her profile. Tomorrow, will get some of her music downloaded while at work. Did you ever hear Ingrid Jensen? Canadian jazz musician, terrific Trumpeter, do check her out if you have the time.
Louis - thanks for the comments.
I hadn't heard of Ingrid Jensen, but of course I googled her - and wow! Will definitely be getting some of her music. J is also a trumpet player, so she'll really appreciate this music!
True that Molly's sax player, Colleen Allen, looks like Hillary Swank. I also think that from certain angles, Ingrid looks like Diana Krall!
Thanks for the info on Ingrid - I love to find music and artists who are new for me - especially in the jazz genre!
Glad to hear that 'J' is a trumpeter. On track with Ingrid Jensen; yeah you bet she's somewhat DK, dig her music especially the Live in Paris DVD, which is simply awesome and the way she pushes her band a step higher to excel in their playing. Love Jeff Hamilton's drumming. More on Ingrid, try and get hold of her 'At Sea' album and listen to the Cole Porter classic 'Everything I Love'. In case J's interested, there's Anna Callahan; trumpeter & vocalist from the States; more of a rookie unlike Ingrid who's a real Pro when she kicks up a storm while at sea :-)
DK has certainly got edgier in recent times - I think that Elvis Costello certainly has influenced her style, especially with some of the timings within the songs where she now changes tempo and then reverses back - it's very cool to listen to.
Will definitely get "At Sea", and will certainly investigate Anna Callahan.
Thanks!
That 'Live in Paris' is one of my favourite albums...especially the way she does Joni's 'A Case of You'...just magic..
mise - oh yeah - her rendition of that song is amazing, as well as I love being here with You and Devil may Care. She sings Under my Skin better than anyone else, I reckon. It's just downright sexy!
M, in case you don't find Ingrid's 'At Sea' in Dubai - I know you won't because I got mine from Artist Share along with Maria Schneider's Live At The Jazz Standard - Days Of Wine And Roses - drop me a note here and I'd be glad to make you a copy of my CDs and mail them to you. Same goes for Anna Callahan too. What can I say? I'm jazz freak :-) LOL.
M, that DK Live in Paris DVD also has 'All or Nothing at All', which is a classic in every sense, check it out :-)
Louis - thanks for the offer of making copies - you're extremely generous!
We'll definitely look for the CDs when we next travel to the US or to Germany, and if I have no joy, I'll get back to you.
I have the DK Paris DVD which is played often - I love every song that she does!
Sounds good to me. Have a great trip, have fun. Cheers.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL mango lassieee!!! Oh that is just brilliant! cracked me up and all lol

SS - thanks! I thought that it was funny too, so I'm glad that you appreciated it!
Everytime I see Mango Lassi on a menu now, I think differently! Blended Modhesh! lol
