Glimpse at Ginza

Time for another random image from our travels - something I haven't done for a while.

This is the upmarket shopping district of Ginza in Tokyo. By night it's a neonlit frenzy of people on pavements and cars on the street. Underneath the streetlevel rumble the subway trains.

Click on the image to enlarge it.

When arriving at Narita, we always take the Narita Express train into Tokyo Station. From there to the hotel, we're on the red Marunouchi Line which takes us through Ginza Station.

Without looking at the signs, we know when we're at Ginza because there'll always be lots of women loaded with shopping bags running to get on the train!

Herlock - agreed.

It's a city that I absolutely adore going to, but I'd be poorer than I am now very quickly if we were there for any length of time!

We've paid a fortune for topline sushi which has been disappointing when we compare it to what we can get in Japanese-run restaurants in San Francisco and even in New Zealand. We're spoiled when it comes to choice!

I think that it has a lot to do with the quality of the seafood. Even though the pieces are very expensive in Japan, they just don't taste as fresh.

We love getting bento boxes for lunch, and the formality of business can take a lot of getting used to, but we do love it. Just doing things like riding the subway, visiting the shrines, walking the streets - going to my favourite shop in the whole world, Bic Camera which is 8 floors of camera and electrical goods!

I'd like to go back and see more of the country as Ive only seen Tokyo. J has seen Nara and Osaka - she loved Nara.

Tokyo drives me nuts. I can take it for about one day, then I have to go back to the farming area where we live and decompress.

Just not cut out for cities, and that is one big city.

I'm doing a post sometime on our trip through the Japan alps a few summers ago. It reminded me of the Colorado Rockies. Just beautiful.

PB - I don't think I'd like to live in Tokyo, but it's fun to visit.

Looking forward to your alps post!
